Module 6: Attitude of Gratitude
CASEL: Social awareness
Learning objectives
- Identify resources in Talent Ready that most high school students do not have
- Describe how gratitude changes the way you handle a low score
- Write a specific thank-you that names what the person did
Learn
Elevate Your Perspective means looking at where you are standing from higher up. A Talent Ready student is earning college credit, preparing for four industry certifications, and using a study companion built for their exact course, before finishing high school. Most students in the country do not have any one of those. Gratitude is not about feeling lucky. It is about seeing the whole picture accurately.
Treasure Yourself is the part of gratitude people skip. A low score on a gate is one number on one day. It does not cancel the modules you already passed or the work you already did. Gratitude toward yourself means giving your past effort the credit it earned before you judge your latest result.
Thank It Forward is specific. "Thanks" is a reflex. "Thank you for staying until 6:30 on Thursday to walk me through subnetting" is gratitude with a name and a reason. Specific thanks tells the person exactly what to keep doing. It also tells you exactly what helped.
Worked example
Situation: A student passes Exam 1 after three learning-hours sessions with a facilitator and one with a classmate.
Fixed response
Growth response
Why it matters: Both people now know what worked. The student also knows what to ask for next time.
